Roy B. Shuman, age 69, of Old Berwick Rd., Bloomsburg, died on Saturday evening, October 8, 2011 a resident of Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville where he was admitted earlier in the day. Roy was also receiving treatment at Geisinger Medical Center for the past few weeks.
Roy was born on Wednesday, February 18, 1942 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Benjamin and Lena (Hess) Shuman. He attended the former Scott School and was a 1961 graduate of the Central Columbia High School. Following high school, Roy served his country in the U.S. Navy.
For 25 years, Roy was the owner and operator of the former Bloomsburg Ice & Cold Storage Co.
Roy's services to his community, included memberships in the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion, Post 273, the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge BPOE 436, also Life memberships with the Espy Fire Co., Mainville Fire Co., Lightstreet Fire Co., and also the Lime Ridge Fire Co. He also was a member of the Columbia County Fire Police and as well as the Bloomsburg and Scott Township Fire Relief.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Janet L. (Puderbaugh) Shuman of Bloomsburg; three daughters: Cindy D. Price and husband, Charles; Rachel M. Shuman and Mary Lou Shuman, all of Bloomsburg; a son: Michael Roy Shuman also of Bloomsburg; a grandson: Braylon Hutchinson; and two sisters: Eileen Sircovics and Winifred Neuhard, both of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg. There will be Fraternal Services presented by the Bloomsburg Elks BPOE 436.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 10 a.m. from the Ridge Street United Methodist Church, 145 Ridge Street, (Almedia) Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Robert J. Eddinger, officiating. Graveside services will be held in Fisher Cemetery, Main Twp. A combined VFW/American Legion Group will provide Military Honors
