Nellie S. Edwards, age 87, a life long resident of Columbia County, died Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Bloomsburg Health Care Center where she was a short term resident.

Nellie was born on Thursday, August 16, 1923 in Catawissa, a daughter of the late Emmanuel and Bessie Steinruck Singley. She graduated from the Catawissa High School in 1941.

For 25 years Nellie was employed by Bloomsburg University. She retired on January 4, 1985 as supervisor of the Duplicating Services Department.

Nellie was a member of Trinity Reformed UCC, Bloomsburg. During her retirement years she was an active volunteer with the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband J. Garth Edwards, Sr. on February 6, 1991, a son J. Garth Edwards, Jr. on December 3, 1977, a sister Alma S. Linn on December 1, 1991 and a brother William E. Singley on August 6, 1984. She was the last member of her immediate family. Survivors include a niece: Bette Jo Doty and nephews: Glenn R. Rupert, Jr. and Frank Edwards, all of Bloomsburg.

Friends will be received Wednesday, July 6, at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg. From 6 p.m. until time of services. Funeral Services will begin at 7 p.m. with her pastor, Rev. Stephen D. Englehardt, officiating. Graveside Services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the New Rosemont Cemetery. Family will provide flowers. Memorial Contributions are suggested to Bloomsburg Hospital Cardiac Unit 410 Glenn Ave., Bloomsburg.
