Dr. Marylou F. John, age 86, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, January 30, 2011 a resident of Grandview Health Homes. She resided in Grandview since being admitted in May of 2006.
Marylou was born on Friday, February 15, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Dr. Howard Fenstermacher. She was a member of the 1941 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. She later received a Bachelors Degree from Bloomsburg University, her Master's from Bucknell University and her Ph.D. from Penn State University. For over 20 years, she was a Professor in the Foreign Language Department at Bloomsburg University until her retirement in 1986. She was fluent in five different languages. She was a member of the First English Baptist Church in Bloomsburg. She was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross in Bloomsburg.
She is survived by her only son, F. Edward John and his wife, Kathleen, of Bloomsburg. Preceding her in death was her brother, the late Howard Fenstermacher.
Friends will be received on Tuesday evening, February 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 2 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home with her pastor, Rev. Lee Barnhardt, from the First English Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
