Martha H. Waples, age 90, a resident of Balanced Care, Bloomsburg for two years and formerly of Espy, died Saturday, January 31 in The Bloomsburg Hospital where she was admitted Tuesday. Martha was born June 30, 1918, in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Clyde and Helen Tubbs Hartman. She was salutorian of the 1936 graduating class of the former Scott High School in Espy. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy. For many years Mrs. Waples, along with her husband, owned and operated the former Waples Hardware of Espy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burton W. Waples on November 17, 1990. Survivors include a daughter: Helen L. Miller and husband, Ronald, of Bloomsburg; two sons: David B. Waples and wife, Pauline, of Bradenton, FL and John J. Waples and wife, Mary Jo, of East Greenwich, RI; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister: Jean Wanich of Benton. In addition to her husband, Martha was preceded in death by three brothers: Alan Hartman, Bruce Hartman and Ned Hartman. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg with The Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
