Obituary

Marianna N. Whitenight , age 96, of Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at the Emmanuel Nursing Center in Danville.
Marianna was born on Saturday, December 20, 1919 in Ashland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Albert G. and Bessie (Ash) Naunas. She was proud to be a Buckeye. After moving to Bloomsburg she attended the Ben Franklin Elementary School in Bloomsburg and was currently the oldest surviving alumnus. Marianna later graduated from the Bloomsburg HIgh School in 1937. She expanded her education by attending Bloomsburg State College Department of Business.
Marianna was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ for over 60 years, where she was involved in many activities there and loved "The Dominoes Gang."
Marianna was a business woman dealing with the Whitenight Homestead Farms in Hemlock Township and the Hi Ho Place in Bloomsburg. She was known as "The Hi Ho Lady" and was active in community service as a member of the Eastern Star, the Bloomsburg Antique Club, and the Columbia County Planning Commission. Marianna enjoyed political involvement, gardening, painting, and especially family fun.
In addition to her parents, Marianna was also preceded by her husband: Mathias C. Whitenight; her son, M. Albert Whitenight, who was a polio survivor and her brother, Robert Naunas.
Survivors include daughters: Betsy Whitenight Strunk of West Chester and Savannah GA and Judith Ellen Snavely and husband, William E., of Bloomsburg, PA; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and a sister: Alberta Gillespie of Titusville, FL.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg. Friends and family will also be received on Monday, December 5, at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ from 10 to 11.
Funeral Services will begin on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with her pastor, Rev. Steven Hummel, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Whitenight family.
