Martha Jeanne Reedy Patterson, age 96, concluded her journey in this life on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, in the excellent care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville.
She was born on Sunday, October 25, 1914, in the family's home on Iron Street in Bloomsburg, she was the first child of the late Joseph and Clara Reifendifer Reedy. Since 2006, she had been a resident of Maria Joseph Manor in Danville and had previously resided in her home at 565 E. Third Street, Bloomsburg, for over 56 years. After graduating from Bloomsburg High School, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for a federal agency and where she also met her future husband, Eugene 'Pat' Patterson. In 1949, they relocated to Bloomsburg where Pat co-owned and operated Lee-Pat's Men's Clothiers on Main Street with Lee Kitchen, husband of Vivian, Jeanne's sister. For most of her life, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, a long-standing volunteer of the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary, and a 60+ year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Her Interests included: knitting, needlepoint, a variety of arts and crafts, and time spent in her kitchen. She also cherished time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eugene 'Pat' Patterson, who died on February 17, 1995; an infant daughter: Martha Eugenia; a brother: Joseph Reedy; and a grandson: Jeffrey Patterson.
She is survived by three sons: Joseph Patterson and wife, Dorothy, of Collegeville, PA; Richard Patterson and wife, Eileen, of Mechanicsburg, PA; and James Patterson and wife, Helen, of Bloomsburg; a sister: Vivian Kitchen of Bloomsburg; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, April 4 at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, 345 Market St., Bloomsburg with her pastor, Rev. Steve Cureton, officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Patterson family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
