Obituary

Julia A. Driskell, age 89, of Fair Street, Bloomsburg, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 a patient in the ER of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital. Julia has been a resident of the Town of Bloomsburg her entire life.
Julia was born on Thursday, March 22, 1923 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Ethel (Zeisloft) Welliver. Throughout her earlier years, she attended and graduated from the Bloomsburg High School, and also a graduate of the Bloomsburg State Teacher's College and Bucknell University. She spent her entire career teaching her "beloved students". She was a Fifth Grade Teacher for the former Scott School and also educated children in the Central Columbia Middle School for over 35 years. Julia was a life-time member of the former Dutch Hill United Church of Christ, currently the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church. Throughout her years of membership, she held the offices of Deacon, Elder, Bible School Director and also Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society, a Scout Leader and a basketball coach.
On February 19, 1998, Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles E. "Ed" Driskell. She was also preceded by a foster daughter: Dollie M. Hippenstiel in 1997 and a sister: Grace Driskell in 1952.
Julia is survived by three foster daughters: Carrie M. Poust of Newport, PA; Katie B. Davis and husband, Roger, of Trout Run, PA; and Peggy Driskell Long of Bloomsburg. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, August 30 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with family friend, Rev. Allen F. Acor and Rev. George Zerbe of Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church, co-officiating. Graveside services will be held in the Dutch Hill Cemetery, Madison Township. The Immediate family will provided flowers. Memorial contributions in Julia's honor are suggested to: Col. Co. Historical & Genealogical Society, 225 Market St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815 or the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church, 604 Dutch Hill Rd., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
