John C. Stephens, age 79, of Buck Road, Orangeville, died Friday, March 11 in the Berwick Retirement Village where he was a resident since February 24. John was born on Sunday, April 12, 1931 in Berwick, the only child of the late John W. and Lois Farver Stephens.
John attended the Berwick Schools. He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. John initially served in the National Guard and following an honorable discharge, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
For 21 years John was employed by Danville State Hospital as a Plumber. He retired in 1991.
As an avid hunter, John was a member of the Mountain View Hunting Club, Blossburg. Following retirement, his love of fishing took him on a six week fishing trip in Alaska. He also enjoyed fishing in the Chesapeake Bay.
On February 14, 1998, John married Dawn Rarig Semiclose, who survives. Additional survivors include three sons: John Stephens (Ann) of Bloomsburg, Jamie Stephens (Katie) of Presque Isle ME and Jeff Stephens (Judy) of Waverly NY; three step-children: Joseph Semiclose (Pam Whitenight) of Riverside, Heidi Semiclose (Shane Lorson) of Berwick and Gretchen Reichard (Barry) of Danville; 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, all services will be private.
