Helen M. VanSickle, age 89, of 5th Street, Riverside and former long time resident of 231 Deussen Drive, Bloomsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Mahoning Township where she was admitted on Friday. She had been in declining health for the past ten years. Helen was born Friday, October 17, 1919 in Cambra, Huntington Township, the daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Albertson) Monroe. She was a 1937 graduate of the former Scott High School. Early in life she resided in Lightstreet and later at Deussen Drive, Bloomsburg for 35 years and most recently resided with her daughter in Riverside for the past three years. She was last employed by the former Letterman Bakery in Catawissa until her retirement in 1981. Throughout her younger years she was employed in many of the mills in Bloomsburg including the Bloomsburg Silk Mills. Helen attended the Bloomsburg Christian Church, formerly the First Church of Christ. She enjoyed many hobbies including roller skating in her younger years and never missed a year attending the Bloomsburg Fair. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. VanSickle on December 17, 1965; a son: Sterling E. VanSickle on December 26, 1989; and a brother: James M. Monroe, Sr. on May 2, 1997. Helen is survived by her daughter: Sarah Maciejewski and her husband Frank, Jr., with whom she last resided; 6 grandchildren: Tammy Whitmire, Berwick; George Drumheller, Bethany, Missouri; Jeffrey Drumheller, Danville; Dawn Roberts and her husband Troy, Riverside; Franklin VanSickle and his wife Marina, Nescopeck; and Sharon VanSickle, Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and a great-great-grandson. Funeral Services are incomplete at this time and will be announced.
