Frederick W. Evans's Obituary

Frederick W. Evans, age 85, of 149 W. Dawalt St., Orangeville, died Monday, December 14, at his home. Born in Wilkes Barre on October 17, 1924, he was a son of the late Evan B. and Florence Vinecomb Evans. Fred was a 1943 graduate of the GAR High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific including Papua New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines. His service to his country was concluded in 1946 and at that time he attended the Wyoming Valley Industrial School and Electronic School. As an Electrical Inspector, Fred was last employed by the Department of General Services of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania retiring in 1986. Prior he has been employed by Martins Electric House of Kingston, Kennedy Van Saun and Merck Chemical Co. both of Danville and Ford Motor Co. in Michigan. During his early years, Fred was part of street meetings in Wilkes Barre. While serving in the Navy he was a chaplain's assistant. He served on a church board, was a Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School for many years. In addition he taught Sunday School and Bible Study in various churches. During his entire life he was also involved in Nursing Home and Hospital Visitations as well as Discipling of New Converts. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Stuart Soper Evans, son David L. Evans, Buckhorn, PA, step-daughters Mrs. Harry Rex (Robin) Berwick, PA, Mrs. Dean LaRue (Ann) Loxahatchee, FL, granddaughter Laura Evans, Buckhorn, PA, step-granddaughter Mrs. Jason Dilissio (Jennifer) Shermansdale, PA, two step-great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Stephen Mack (Dorothy) Northville, MI. Three brothers died previously, Lester, Arlington and Wayne. Fred enjoyed his family, friends, electrical work and recreational activities but his greatest joy and pleasure has been knowing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in a personal way and sharing Him with others all his life. The Evans Family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg. Visitors are welcome at 149 W. Dawalt St., Orangeville.
