Florence S. "Flo" Harris, age 81, formerly of Bloomsburg, died on Friday, December 21, 2012 a resident of Berwick Retirement Village II. Flo was most recently residing in Berwick for the past eight years.
Flo was born on Tuesday, December 23, 1930 in Antes Fort, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Frank and Rosie (Confer) Stout. She was a member of the 1948 Graduating Class of the Jersey Shore High School. Following her high school education, Flo also attended and later graduate with a Teaching Degree from the Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1972. For over 21 years, she was employed by the Berwick School District as an Elementary Teacher at the Orange Street School I Berwick until her retirement in 1993. Throughout her adult life, Flo was also a very active member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church and most recently the Stone United Methodist Church in Berwick.
In addition to her parents, Flo was preceded in death by four brothers: James, John, Charles and Russell Stout.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Charles D. "Doug" Harris, two sons: Charles Dewey Harris and wife, Nalei, of Kailua, HI; and Douglas Harris and wife, Donna, of Berwick; a daughter: Wendy Hastie and husband, Aaron, of Frederick, MD; six grandchildren: April Harris Snyder, Ginny Harris Crake, Abram Hastie, Elizabeth Hastie, Rachel Hastie and Jordan Hastie; five great-grandchildren: Harrison Snyder, Everett Snyder, Henry Snyder, Karolena Crake and Russell Crake; two sisters: Mary Ann DiRocco of S. Williamsport; and Sherry Erisman of Kansas City, MO; and also by two brothers: William Stout of Jersey Shore and Ward K. Stout of Penn Yan, NY.
A time of Visitation will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, December 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. from the Stone Church U.M.C., 300 Stone Church Rd., in Berwick.
Funeral services will also begin on Wednesday, December 26 at 11 a.m. from the Stone Church U.M.C. with Rev. Susan Knorr and Pastor Jake Woodward, co-officiating. The Harris family is being assisted with arrangements by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
