Obituary

David R. Riley, age 72, of Benton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 2, 2013 at his home following a courageous year long battle with cancer.
Dave was born on Monday, October 7, 1940 in Hamilton, Ohio, a son of the late Mondie and Rita (Kieser) Riley, and also a step-son of the late Albert Bunger. Throughout his younger years, he completed his education from the Hamilton Area Schools and later continued his education at Temple University in the field of Metallurgy.
On May 4, 1964, Dave enlisted with the United States Army and served his country faithfully as Sergeant with the 114th Army Infantry Division. Dave served his country for 33 months in Germany with the Army Security Agency. On April 24, 1964, Dave was honorably discharged from his dedicated time of service.
On November 25, 1972, Dave married his beloved wife of 40 years, Joanne Daveler. Dave and his wife have resided in Benton for the past 14 years. Prior to moving to Benton, they lived in Churchville, Bucks County, where Dave was employed by Interstate Steel where he began working in 1970. From 1980 until his retirement in 1998, Dave served as the Vice-President of Interstate Steel.
Dave enjoyed golfing and camping, and was an avid sport enthusiast and reader. He loved animals and will be missed by his two companions, Roggie and Lily. For the past six years, he has been an active member of the Benton Lions Club where he served as the past-President for the year 2011-2012. Dave also served at the District Level as the District 14-G Lions Convention Chairman. Dave was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Joanne (Daveler) Riley. Also surviving is a son: David E. Riley of Dunellon, FL; sister: Susan Browning of Cincinnati, OH; a half-sister: Nancy Price and a half-brother: Aloysius Bunger both of Hamilton, OH; two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews; a mother-in-law: Ruth Daveler of Danville; a brother and sister-in-law: Donald and Joanne Daveler of East Fallowfield, PA; a niece: Jennifer Daveler; and a nephew: Jeffrey Daveler of Philadelphia. Dave was preceded in death by a son: Daniel P. Riley.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening, April 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad St., Millville.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at 2 p.m. from the Stillwater Christian Church, 42 Wesley St., Stillwater, PA 17878 with Associate Pastor Scott Lyons, officiating. Friends are also invited to join the family following the services in the church fellowship hall for a time of food and fellowship.
