Obituary

Arlene M. Miller, age 89, formerly of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 2013 a resident of the Jewish Home of greater Harrisburg. Arlene was also formerly of Mechanicsburg and Enola, Pennsylvania.
Arlene was born on Sunday, September 23, 1923 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late John and Elsie (Longenberger) Klingaman. In 1941, Arlene completed her high school education after graduating from the Beaver Township School. Following her high school education, she attended the Bloomsburg Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated in 1944 as a Registered Nurse.
On March 3, 1945, Arlene enlisted with the United State Army where she served her country faithfully during World War II. She served as a Lieutenant Army Nurse aboard a Hospital Naval Vessel off the coast of Korea. On July 7, 1946, Arlene was honorably discharged from the United States Army from her dedicated time of service.
After returning home, she married her husband of 60 years, Peter Miller, on June 21, 1947. She was employed for many years by the former Bloomsburg Hospital as a RN and also served as private-duty nurse. She was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and also assisted in the VBS programs, and alter guild for the church. Arlene was also very active in the Bloomsburg Chapter of the American Red Cross.
In addition to her late husband who passed On December 18, 2007, Arlene was preceded in death by three siblings: Donald Klingaman, Maxine Gottstein and Franklin Klingaman.
Survivors include three daughters: Luann Brouwder and husband, Harry, of Reisterstown, MD; Maralyn Kelly and husband, Steven, of Enola; and Sheila Daise and husband, Thomas, also of Enola; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister: Eltheda Smith of Collingswood, NJ.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with the Rev. Chad A. Hebrink of the Grace Lutheran Church, Berwick. Graveside services with full Military Honors provided by a combined group of the American Legion/VFW will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. Memorial contributions in Arlene's name are suggested to the WELCA Quilters, c/o St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg.
