Alice G. Babb age 84, a former resident of 11th St. Bloomsburg, died on Monday morning, October 14, 2013 in Emeritus Personal Care Facility where she had been a resident for 3 ½ months. After having their home damaged in the flood of Tropical Storm Lee, Alice and her husband resided in Lions Gate apartments in Scott Township.
Alice was born on Tuesday, July 30, 1929 in Montour Twp., Columbia County, a daughter of the late Maxwell and Rebecca (Moyer) Girton. She attended the Valley Schools and in 1947 graduated from the Bloomsburg High School. On January 13, 1951, Alice married her loving husband John F. Babb.
As manager of the Bloomsburg High School cafeteria, Alice was able to maintain a work schedule that allowed her to enjoy time with her family. She retired after 22 years of dedicated service to the Bloomsburg School District.
For over 50 years, Alice was a faithful member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir, and assisted her husband as Communion Steward for many years. She was a past member of the board of directors of the Bloomsburg Chapter of the American Red Cross and was also a member of the Bloomsburg Bicentennial Choir. She loved spending her time attending and following her family's sports activities. Alice was a very accomplished bowler over the years, but most of all loved traveling extensively during her years of retirement.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a twin-sister: Mary Ruth Buckley; and two sisters: Josephine Laubach and Maxine Poust.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 62 years, John F. Babb; a daughter: Barbara Babb and husband, Peter Toran, of Baltimore, MD; a son Robert "Bob" Babb and wife, Gilly, also of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren: Harrison Kobb, Jordon Kobb, Marin Kobb, Gillian Babb, Olivia Babb, and Andrew Babb; a sister: Emma Stewart of Bloomsburg and several nieces and nephews.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening, October 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services begin on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 130 W.3rd Street, Bloomsburg with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver, officiating. Friends will also be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Graveside services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge.
